A good example is Chapter 7: "Can we trust government?", which covers Ecclesiastes Chapter 8, and includes his own experiences, which like my own, reveal that we may be called to do things for reasons that may not be known at the time, but become clear in the future.I am reading through the Bible now, front to back, accompanied by Stedman's Adventuring Through the Bible, which makes for much easier reading and understanding, and a few more years of life experiences doesn't hurt either.

Ray Stedman was a scholar who also wrote in a conversational and friendly tone. I used many of his discussion points in a class and find him, as always, practical and trustworthy as well as enjoyable
This book will surprise you, especially if you are mature enough to appreciate the wisdom of a seasoned pastor's view of life's pilgrimage. It has hilarious parts and wow parts. You will see life as God meant you to see it.

Ecclesiastes is one of my favorite books of the Bible and Ray Stedman does a marvelous job at helping to explain its message.
Dr Ray Stedman has produced a wonderful but different presentation of this strange but inspiring writing from Solomon. He gives a tremendous but earthly outlook on some of the problems faced during a lifetime as he assists the modern-day reader in understanding the thought processes of Solomon as he searched for meaning and logic to the everyday concerns of life under the sun. Thoroughly enjoyed and I would recommend this book to anybody, not just for Christians to read.

I am picky. With that said, I enjoy reading anything written, by Ray C. Stedman. He does well to put his points, into a well structured perspective. I wish I had all of his books.
Ray Stedman wrote a very approachable introduction to Ecclesiasties - one of the more interesting books in the canon, and a key element of the Jewish wisdom tradition that flourished in the era 400-150 BCE. Stedman makes the point routinely that the book was written by Solomon, anbout 800 years prior to this period, but most scholars would disagree with that assessment.
While Stedman is a traditional Christian preacher, and is reasonably conservative in his interpretations, his knowledge and analysis of the original Hebrew, as well as general insights into the application and meaning of the scriptures are both interesting and educated.
Each chapter of Ecclesiastes is examined and Stedman's commentary is thought provoking and applicable to the modern reader. In fact, he makes a strong effort to bridge the 2000+ year gap to demonstrate the relevance of the scripture in today's life.
Many people, in my experience, have glossed over or largely ignored the rich Jewish wisdom tradition, such as Ecclesiastes, Proverbs, Wisdom, etc. in the canon. Stedman's book will allow a reader to experience the richness of the tradition with this interesting, easy to read intro.
